About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and analytical Environmental Scientist to join our growing environmental research and field services team in Canterbury. In this role, you’ll support environmental assessments, field data collection, reporting, and sustainability initiatives across regional projects. You will work alongside ecologists, engineers, and local authorities to help protect natural habitats, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote environmentally responsible practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys, soil/water sampling, and environmental monitoring.
     
  • Analyse environmental data and prepare technical reports.
     
  • Support Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and regulatory submissions.
     
  • Monitor air, water, and land quality in compliance with regional standards.
     
  • Assist with habitat restoration, conservation planning, and biodiversity projects.
     
  • Maintain accurate field records, samples, and documentation.
     
  • Collaborate with project managers, government bodies, and stakeholders.
     
  • Present findings and recommendations to internal teams and clients.
     

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or related field.
     
  • 1–3 years' experience in environmental monitoring, research, or consulting (preferred).
     
  • Knowledge of New Zealand environmental regulations and policies.
     
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, GIS, or environmental software).
     
  • Strong report writing and communication skills.
     
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varied field conditions.
     
  • Full, clean driver’s licence.
